I've read five of these in a row and I need to take a break. They're wonderful and beautifully written but the dialogue feels a bit repetitive
Getting to know Dave Robicheaux, is a treat, Clete Purcell adds a spice reminiscent of Spenser and Hawk; but Dave ain in Boston, and Clete don't need Hawks ways to let you know he takes a bullet for Dave. This is fiction, but if you believe that, you also believe some other things we won't go into. Saying James Lee Burke is a master, falls short; saying this read is one you'll like, does the same- but you will. Get it now, you will be glad as rain you did, partner.

I just love this guy, the background is filled with smells and sights and of course innuendo. The story was as usual strong with people you care for good or bad, safe or doomed and the love of a child... However subcontracted her care ends up

James Lee Burke doesn't just write colorful characters, he exposes their souls and psyche and all the snakes that writhe there. I've read everyone of JLB's 20 Dave Robicheaux novels and now, I'm reading them again. And I'm finding so much more in the depths of his writing that I never realized the first time around. I'm starting book six now and relishing every page. I have to say though, A Stained White Radiance is one of my favorites. He really nails the personalities of the characters. Maybe it's because I'm 26 years older than I was the first time I read this book but I recognize more truth in story and the characters now.
